For those of us who call Spokane Valley home, the holiday season presents an opportunity to rediscover the charm of community. From peaceful strolls through snow-covered neighborhood parks to lively holiday celebrations, the season’s top activities are right here in our backyard. Come along as we explore all the Valley has in store during this enchanted time of year.

Holiday Activities

With fall’s golden moments behind us, winter sweeps in its blend of fun, family-focused holiday festivities. Activities in the Valley promise both the comfort of heartwarming holiday traditions and the excitement of new experiences.
If you’re seeking something unique for someone unique, plan to attend Custer’s Christmas Arts & Crafts Showat the Fair & Expo Center in Spokane Valley on Nov. 22–24. Sometimes, the best gift for that hard-to-shop-for family member is not a “new” gift but an “old” (vintage) gift. You’ll find gifts of all shapes and sizes for all ages at this annual Christmas market.
Ring in the holiday season with the City’s Celebration of Lights Tree Lighting on Friday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. at the newly expanded Balfour Park. Gather your loved ones for an evening of music, hot chocolate, and a special visit from Santa himself.

Visits with Santa

The following morning, on Saturday, Dec. 7, bring the whole family to Breakfast with Santa at CenterPlace Regional Event Center for pancakes, crafts, games, and another personal visit with the man of the season. Registration is required, so secure your spot for a cozy morning that will be sure to set the perfect tone for the holiday.
If you don’t get an opportunity to visit with Santa at the tree lighting ceremony or breakfast, you will find him at the Spokane Valley Mall from mid-November through Dec. 24. A day at the largest mall in the region provides opportunities for endless fun as a family, including a memorable photo taken with the big guy in the red suit.

Spokane Valley Holiday Spirit

Later in the month, don’t miss the Spokane Valley Winter Market held Dec. 14–15. Stroll among local vendors at CenterPlace Regional Event Center to find that perfect, handcrafted gift—without the holiday rush. In partnership with the Spokane Valley Summer Farmers Market, this event will feature several local (and familiar) artists, crafters, and artisan bakers.
For some musical flair, plan to attend the Spokane Valley Summer Theatre’s Big Band Christmas production Dec. 20–22 at University High School for some musical flair. This show is pure happiness—when a small town school’s Christmas production goes sour, Santa & Mrs. Claus send their favorite Elf to save the day and restore the spirit of Christmas! This fresh ‘Christmas in the Country’ theme will feature a 17-piece Big Band, a joyous children’s chorus, top-tier regional singers, and Santa and Mrs. Claus. This annual show sells out, so tickets should be purchased in advance at svsummertheatre.com.
And when winter break rolls around, keep your kiddos entertained with Cool Camp at CenterPlaceRegional Event Center, running from Dec. 23 through Jan. 3. This action-packed day camp engages elementary-aged children with both indoor and outdoor winter-themed activities. Sign them up for one day or all seven, and enjoy peace of mind knowing they’ll be enjoying a flurry of fun. This camp is organized by the City’s Parks and Recreation Program; visit spokanevalleywa.gov/coolcamp for registration and fee information.
