Published August 1, 2025

When the day turns to dusk in Spokane Valley, the fun doesn’t fade. Here, nature’s backdrop becomes a stage for summer nights. Whether watching movies or meteors, this laid-back landscape blends entertainment with affordability—so you can skip the crowds and linger longer.

SCREENINGS & SYMPHONIES

The Valley invites families to find both culture and comfort in its summer soundtrack of beloved music and movies. With ample space and accessible settings, these events are crafted for families who appreciate quality entertainment without congestion.

OUTDOOR MOVIES AT MIRABEAU POINT PARK

Spokane Valley’s Mirabeau Point Park, home to CenterPlace Regional Event Center, offers families a double feature of family-favorite films this August. On back-to-back Fridays—August 1 and 8—Academy Award-nominated animated films Inside Out 2 and The Wild Robot light up the lawn at sunset, with themed activities beginning earlier in the evening. Surrounded by pines and playgrounds, this 55-acre park turns a single free screening into a full family affair. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets, and come early to enjoy lawn games and kids’ activities.

SPOKANE SYMPHONY CONCERT AT COMSTOCK PARK

Just a short 10-minute drive from the Valley, the Spokane Symphony’s concert at Comstock Park hits all the right notes—a full orchestra, fresh air, and free admission. This annual Labor Day tradition draws families to the lawn for a 6:00 PM performance on September 1 of popular classics, Hollywood themes, and Broadway favorites. Pack your picnic basket and blanket, and enjoy one of summer’s final, finest evenings.

MARKETS & MAKERS

Spokane Valley’s summer markets merge community connections with seasonal splendor. These gatherings give families an opportunity to find homegrown harvests under the evening’s calm, cool air. Stroll stalls featuring an array of farm-fresh picks for every palette.

FARMERS MARKET AT CENTERPLACE

Planted in the heart of the Valley, the Spokane Valley Farmers Market brings fresh flavor and family fun to CenterPlace Regional Event Center’s sunlit West Lawn Plaza. The market operates from 4 to 8 PM on Fridays through September 12. Just steps from Discovery Playground, kids can climb, create, and connect before picking out their own produce through the KERNEL program—Kids Eating Right: Nutrition and Exercise for Life—which rewards hands-on learning with $2 in market money. With 40+ vendors, food trucks, and tunes under open skies, the scene is spacious, stroller-friendly, and easy to navigate with plenty of free parking.

THE SCALE HOUSE MARKET AND MERCHANTILE AT THE QUARRY

Once a weigh station, now a weekend staple, Spokane Valley’s Scale House Market and Merchantile stands just two miles from the freeway. The Mercantile is open Wednesday through Sunday. An outdoor market with vendors, music, and food trucks operates on Wednesdays and Fridays from 3 to 8 PM, and on Saturdays until 2 PM. This newly opened outdoor market (debuted May 31) features 55 vendors, rotating food trucks, and a format that flows seamlessly between indoor and outdoor spaces. With room to roam and space to sample, it’s built for browsing in the breeze.

SUNSETS & STARS

For families hunting views of heavenly skies, the Valley delivers. This region’s forests, fields, and foothills create ideal conditions for stargazing and scenic strolls. Low light pollution perfects celestial sights, while easy access promises peaceful passage.

SUNSET STROLLS AT CENTENNIAL & APPLEWAY TRAILS

The Valley’s trails offer the perfect terrain for a golden-hour glide or twilight trek. If you’re looking for a path with a past, the Appleway Trail in Spokane Valley traces an old railroad right-of-way parallel to the city’s long-standing Sprague Avenue. Meanwhile, the nationally known Centennial Trail offers 37 miles of scenic paths perfect for a family bike ride or brisk walk. Stretching from west Spokane to Coeur d’Alene, the trail treats you to a panorama of the Valley’s most picturesque views. With well-maintained paths, both the Appleway and Centennial trails offer a secure, scenic passage through the Valley’s breathtaking beauty.

STARGAZING AT DISHMAN HILLS

Catch summer’s coolest show where dark skies meet dramatic slopes. Dishman Hills, a protected 3,200-acre natural area, offers elevated viewing for the Perseid meteor shower, peaking August 11–13. Families will find a front-row seat to 75 fast-falling meteors each hour—brilliant bursts that punctuate the peaceful panorama overhead. Close to the city but far from its glow, this setting gives stargazers both cosmic clarity and convenient comfort.

SECURE YOUR STAY

After hiking hills and wading waters, lean into the leisure of the Valley’s evening hours. Symphonies, movies, markets and stargazing offer entertainment that appeals to all ages and interests. Plus, from popular hotel names to personalized boutique stays, the Valley is home to a variety of accommodations. With free parking and convenient freeway connections at every location, your stay will be seamless and stress-free, leaving you refreshed and ready for the next day and night’s adventure.
